Create 1/4" 5/16" 3/8" 1/2" 5/8" dowels grooved or blank
Dimensions: 5" x 2" x 5/16"
Precision machined with narrow tolerence and hardened to Rockwell C 60-62 for good edge retention
Plane straight grain square stock to an octagon shape and chamfer the leading end. Hammer the stock through the hole to make a dowel
Shallow grooves are created by passing blank dowels through the grooving holes a few times. Each pass create 6 grooves 5 thousandths of an inch deep.
Make snug fit dowel joint with room for glue to do its work
